Kalamazoo, Mi. – South division manager Donnie Scott has named Rockford Rivets’ pitcher Cooper Cain the south division starter on the mound in the Northwoods League All-Star game next week.
“It’s a pretty big honor,” Cain said, “I didn’t expect this coming here [to the Northwoods League], to even make this game, and then, to be named the starter, it’s a big deal.”
Cain was in a league of his own after his first four starts. His stat line involved a 0.32 ERA, a 0.54 WHIP, and a batting average against of .099. He was also named Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night in each of his first four starts. Now the Valdosta State sophomore has a 1.34 ERA, and 50 strikeouts compared to only 14 walks.
The Jacksonville, Florida native is the only Rivet playing in the all-star game next week. First pitch is on July 24th, at 6:30 CST.
