The Rivets earned a series sweep against the Wisconsin Woodchucks with a 9-5 victory on Monday night in Rockford. The Rivets improve to 3-3 on the season, white the Chucks drop to 0-5.
“I think everyone is starting to get their stride. We finally hit ours and got a few games under our belt,” Estep said.
The Woodchucks got on the board early with two runs in the third inning and one in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, outfielder Kirk Liebert hit an RBI double to put the Rivets on the board. Outfielder Jake Vander Wal hit a sac fly RBI to put the Rivets within one while infielder Drew Grace steps up to the plate and drills an RBI double to tie the game at three apiece.
Bottom of the sixth, with bases, loaded, third baseman Chase Estep slugged the Rivets first grand slam of the season over the right-field wall to give them their first and final lead of the game.
The Rivets put up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Right-hand pitcher Nico Rodriguez came in to close the ninth and sealed the deal for the Rivets.
The Rivets now head on a two-day road trip and face the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders. Baseball returns to Rockford on Thursday.
