Rockford, Ill.- Ricky Castro led the Rivets to victory on Friday night, pitching seven shutout innings and allowing just one hit. Rockford defeated Green Bay 9-5 in an interdivisional matchup.

Castro gave up his only hit in the first inning and Rockford’s offense struck often, giving Castro solid insurance throughout the contest. Ty Crittenberger led off the Rockford attack with a double and clean-up hitter Matthew Mebane drove him home on a sacrifice fly in the first.

Rockford broke the game open and chased out Rockers starter Michael Fowler in the fourth inning. Thaxton Berch, Cam McDonald and Ben Brantley each had RBI singles as the Rivets scored four in the frame.

Dylan Robertson extended his hitting streak to five games with a double in the fifth. Robertson went two for four with two doubles and two runs.

Ben Brantley hit his first homerun of the season with a line shot to right field in the eighth inning. The laser to right broke through the wind, which was blowing in for most of the game.

Noah Ruen pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning for Rockford, improving his ERA to 1.86 on the season in six appearances.

Green Bay scored five runs in the ninth in a late rally, but the inning ended with the bases empty as Luke Fitton closed the game out.

With the win, Rockford improves to 9-10 and is just 2.5 games behind Kenosha for the Great Lakes East division lead. Green Bay falls to 6-13. The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
