KENOSHA, WI – Following their game one victory, the Rockford Rivets (14-13) played game two of their doubleheader against the Kenosha Kingfish (14-15) on Saturday night. The Rivets held the Kingfish to just one run in the early matchup, silencing their offense at home.

Kenosha turned things around, defeating Rockford 7-1, to even the series. The Rivets outhit the Kingfish, 5-2, but the three errors and five walks were the difference in scoring runs.

​

Right-handed pitcher Colt Armbrust (Webster University) made his first appearance of the season for the Screws, earning the game two start. Through two innings pitched, Armbrust allowed four runs on one hit, with three walks and three strikeouts.

​

The Rivets scored in six of the seven innings in the first matchup and picked up right where they left off in the top of the first. Connor Kave (Harper College) drew a leadoff walk, eventually stealing second and getting to third from a fly out by Beau Bloxdorf (Madison CC). A wild pitch was enough to score Kave, making it two games in a row where the Rivets struck first.

Kenosha didn’t take long to respond this time around, drawing their own leadoff walk and advancing to second with a stolen base. A defensive error by the Screws brought the runner home, tying the game back up 1-1.

​

In the bottom of the second, the Kingfish offense began to find success, in the form of two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases with two outs. An RBI single and a catching error brought in three more runs for Kenosha, giving them their first lead of the series, 4-1.

​

The Kingfish took their momentum into the third frame, juicing the bases for a second time with one out. A bases-clearing double scored another three runs for Kenosha, putting seven unanswered runs on the board.

​

In the top of the sixth, Ashton Zacher (Lamar University) drew a two-out walk to get on base. Keith Eusebio (Paradise Valley CC) advanced him to third to put runners at the corners, with a single to right field. Despite the offense finding its first spark since the beginning of the game, the Rivets were unable to score any runs and flew out of the inning.

The Rivets were unable to rally in the seventh, going down with three strikeouts to end the game. Rockford earned just one hit in the final four innings.
