Border Cats add Stanford Southpaw Hughes

THUNDER BAY, Ontario (May 8, 2012) -- The Thunder Bay Border Cats are proud to announce the signing of lefthanded pitcher Garrett Hughes (pictured) from Stanford University in California. The 6'8", 245 pound southpaw is currently in his sophomore season with the Cardinals, one of the top baseball programs in the PAC-10 conference and all of Division-One college baseball in the United States. Hughes, a native of Carlsbad, CA., has appeared in 10 games, including two starts with Stanford this spring, and is 2-1 with a 2.55 earned run average. Hughes has recorded 14 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings and has held opponents to a .188 batting average.

Rafters Add Two Coaches for 2012

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (May 8, 2012) - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters announced today that David Allbritton and Josh Thomas (pictured) have been added to the coaching staff for the 2012 season. Allbritton will be the hitting coach for the Rafters this summer and Thomas will assume the role of bullpen coach. The team also announced that Max Daven will return to the front office this summer as the Director of Finance and Ticket Sales. Daven was a ticketing intern for the team during the Inaugural Season in 2010.

Mark Macdonald, who is a Wisconsin native and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse alumni, is excited to return back to Wisconsin and be a part of the Wausau and the Central Wisconsin community. “Mark Macdonald will be a great asset to the Woodchucks, and our community. He is very civic minded which is important for further success of the Woodchucks. Mark is a Wisconsin native returning home”, said Eckhoff.
