A seson ago, Rochester Honkers' starter Matt Kent was a Northwoods League All-Star and listed as one of the top players in the league.
Wednesday, he proved why.
The left-hander went seven shutout innings while only allowing two hits as the Honkers beat the Eau Claire Express for a fourth time this season, this one coming by a score of 3-0 at Mayo Field in Rochester, Minn.
Eau Claire only mustered three hits in the entire game, one each by Mike Barajas, Brian Mundell and Brent Gibbs, in the contest.
The Honkers scored twice in the fourth and once in the seventh to give the game its only offense.
In his first start of the year, Orlando Meza did a fine job on the mound for the Express. He struck out the side in the first, then lasted five innings while striking out five in the game. His San Diego State teammate, Brett Seeburger, finished the game by going three innings and giving up one run on three hits and three strikeouts.
The Express travel to Mequon tomorrow to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks, a team the orange and black swept in a home doubleheader on May 28. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
