Two UW-Milwaukee Panthers join the 2015 Express Roster
Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express announced today that two Wisconsin natives and UW – Milwaukee players will join the 2015 Eau Claire Express Roster. Austin Schulfer (RHP) from Stevens Point, WI and Daulton Varsho (C) from Chili, WI will complement an already talented Express roster.
Austin Schulfer (RHP) enters his freshman season at UW-Milwaukee having played his high school ball at Stevens Point Area Senior High School. Schulfer was an Honorable Mention selection of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-State team his senior season in addition to being a unanimous selection to the Wisconsin Valley All-Conference Team. In his senior season, Schulfer gave up no runs in conference play posting a 4-0 record and 0.00 ERA. Schulfer struck out 27 batters in 22 innings pitched his senior season and allowed only five hits in those innings. Schulfer also threw a 10-strikeout no-hitter against D.C. Everest his senior season.
Daulton Varsho (C) is also entering his freshman season for the Panthers hailing from Chili, WI having played for Marshfield High School. Daulton Varsho is the son of Gary Varsho (former MLB player and manager) and nephew of Express Field Manager Dale Varsho. The list of Daulton Varsho’s high school baseball accomplishments is both impressive and extensive. Varsho was named to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team his senior year. Varsho was also named Player of the Year by Gannett Central Wisconsin Media and the top senior infielder/catcher in the state by wissports.net. In his senior campaign, Varsho hit .462, had 31 RBI, six home runs, 17 stolen bases, and 35 runs scored.
The Express begin their 11th season of play in the Northwoods League on May 26th as they take on the Border Cats in Thunder Bay. Eau Claire’s home opener is scheduled for May 28th versus the Duluth Huskies. First pitch of that contest will be at 6:35 PM.
