It was a tough night Saturday for the Eau Claire Express as they dropped their second straight game losing 5-1 to the Willmar Stingers at Carson Park.

Austin Schulfer pitched 7.2 innings with 8 strikeouts including 6 scoreless to start the game. But it wasn’t enough as he gave up 3 runs while the Express only countered with 5 hits of their own.

Schulfer was credited with the loss but Express Field Manager Dale Varsho isn’t blaming it on his starting pitcher.

“I think he did fine. He was cruising along,” said Varsho. “We just didn’t swing the bats.”

It is the second straight night that Eau Claire has failed to gain more than 5 base hits. Express centerfielder Brady Burzynski was 1 for 2 tonight and said he is starting to get concerned.

“I, along with most of the team, has been struggling here in the beginning,” said Burzynski.  “But were a young team and I think a lot of us are still trying to get our feet wet.”

The Express finish up their series with Willmar tomorrow afternoon before heading out on a 6 game road trip. Burzynski said it’s going to be an important game considering the team’s struggles.

“It’d be pretty big to get a win to get some momentum going into this road trip,” said Burzynksi. “Or it’s going to be a long six games because it’s hard to win on the road.”

First pitch tomorrow is set for 5:05 p.m. at Carson Park.
