Eau Claire overcomes 5 errors in game 2 victory
It wasn’t pretty but a 7 run seventh inning fueled the Eau Claire Express to a 10-5 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Thursday night at Port Arthur Stadium. The Express committed 5 errors but amassed 10 hits to split the two game series.
Griffin Jax started on the mound for the Express and gave up 5 runs in 6 innings however only 1 of the runs was earned. He struck out 5 and lowered his season ERA to 1.39.
Dalton Varsho broke open the rout with a 2 run double to tie the game in the seventh inning. After that it was all Express until the end of the game.
A Thunder Bay error gave the Express the lead as Eau Claire never looked back winning by 5 runs.
Ryan Schlosser came in for relief and earned his first save of the season, pitching 3 scoreless innings and recording 3 strikeouts.
Varsho ended 2-5 with 2 RBI while shortstop Irving Lopez went 2-4 with an RBI.
Tyler Jones started at second base tonight and launched his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning.
The win evens the two game series with the Border Cats 1-1 and improves the Express’s overall record to 4-6. The Express prepare to take on the Dultuth Huskies in a two game series starting tomorrow. Dalton Roach takes the mound for Eau Claire in his second start of the season. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. in Duluth.
