Eau Claire can’t keep up in rain-soaked Duluth
It was a long night for the Eau Claire Express after rain delayed the start of their game Saturday against the Duluth Huskies by nearly 90 minutes and stopped play again in the 6th inning.
After jumping on top in the first inning the Express gave up three in the 2nd and never regained the lead as they fell to the Huskies 9-7 for the second night in a row.
Austin Schulfer started on the mound for the Express and took the loss after giving up 5 runs, 3 of them earned, on 8 hits in 4 innings pitched.
Eau Claire made 3 costly errors throughout the night that cost them a total of 5 runs.
Travon Benton launched his first home run of the season with a 2-run shot in the 9th inning. It brought the Express within 2 runs of the Huskies but that was all they could get before Duluth closed out the game.
Eau Claire amassed 10 hits but Duluth topped them with 14. Left fielder Austin Listi was 2-3 on the night with a walk. Shortstop Irving Lopez and second basemen Tyler Jones each knocked in a run to bring their season total RBIs to 6. That ties them for the team lead.
The Express fell to 4-8 on the season. They return home tonight for a 7-game home stand. The Waterloo Bucks come to town for a two game series in their first matchup of the season.
Brody Rodning is on the hill for the Express tonight as he looks to build off his first start. He is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA after one start this season.
