Eau Claire relievers pitch 7 scoreless innings to hold off Huskies
To wrap up a two-game series against the Duluth Huskies on Tuesday night, the Eau Claire Express overcame an early deficit to win the game 4-2 at Wade Stadium.
The Huskies scored 2 runs the bottom of the 2nd inning off Express starter Bryce Hensley. After that Kale Latorre would enter and pitch 6 scoreless innings giving up only 4 Duluth hits.
Meanwhile the Express would score 4 unanswered runs including an inside the park home run from Daulton Varsho that tied the game in the top of the 5th inning.
Varsho finished 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s with a walk and a sacrifice fly.
Victor Sanchez came in to close out the game in the 9th inning where he stranded the tying runner at the plate to earn the save.
Eau Claire improves to 9-12 on the season and 1-1 on the road trip. A win tomorrow in Rochester would give the Express a winning record on the road trip before returning home for a 7-game home stand at Carson Park on Thursday. That game is also against the Rochester Honkers and is sponsored by Charter Bank. During the game there will be an Express Foldable Seat Cushion giveaway. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
