Eau Claire falls behind early, drops first game of road trip
The Eau Claire Express didn’t get the start they were looking for tonight to begin an 8 game road trip. They fell behind early and couldn’t catch up on their way to an 11-4 defeat to the St. Cloud Rox at Joe Faber Field.
Austin Schulfer got the start for Eau Claire and gave up three runs in the first inning and 5 runs total in 3.1 innings pitched. Only four of the runs were earned however as he allowed 5 hits and 3 walks.
The Express got a run each in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings but failed to put up any crooked numbers on the night as they left 7 runners on base.
First basemen Travon Benton was the only Express player with multiple hits going 2 for 4 on the night with an RBI. Eau Claire failed to get any hits for extra bases, all 8 hits were singles.
The Express fall to 12-18 having lost consecutive games. They continue the 8 game road trip tomorrow at St. Cloud for game two of the series. Brody Rodning gets the start for Eau Claire as they look for their first win of the trip and to avoid a losing streak. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
