Flood-gates open as Eau Claire offense comes alive
The Eau Claire Express scored multiple runs in five different innings on their way to a 14-4 rout against the Waterloo Bucks on Sunday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium.
The lineup produced 20 hits and numerous Express players had big days offensively. It started with a 2 run RBI single from shortstop Kyle Marinconz in the first inning to give Eau Claire a lead for good. Six runs in the first two innings led the day for the Express backed by a four run fifth inning.
Marinconz finished the afternoon with four hits including a double, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk to continue his stellar year at the plate. Daniel Jipping would enter the game in the top of the eighth inning and smack his third home run of the season.
Daulton Varsho and Teddy Cillis both had three-hit, three RBI games as the first four players in the lineup combined for 12 hits. Brady Burzynski started in center and went 2-4 in the leadoff spot while Joe Gilliette gave the bottom of the order some credit with three hits and two RBI.
Michael Gomez started on the mound and pitched six strong innings to earn his third win of the season. He allowed just one run on four hits while striking out six.
The Express now improve to 4-8 in the second half and 17-29 overall. They have one more game on this road trip with a matchup against the Lakeshore Chinooks on Monday. First pitch tomorrow is set for 6:35 p.m.
The Express return home to Carson Park next Tuesday for a five game homestand. That game is sponsored by Novo Nordisk and there will be a sunscreen, sport bottle, and jump rope giveaway.
