Express return from All-Star break to beat Honkers
The Eau Claire Express returned from the 2015 Northwoods League All-Star Break on a six-game road trip beginning in Rochester. They started off hot defeating the Rochester Honkers 7-3 Thursday afternoon at Mayo Field.
Collecting eleven total hits the Express didn’t miss a beat after three days off from baseball. Daulton Varsho continued his hot hitting with three hits on the afternoon including an RBI and a run scored.
The Express put the first runs on the board in the third inning where they put up four runs. They took advantage of two Rochester Honkers on four hits of their own to take the lead and never look back.
Erich Uelmen got the start for the Express and pitched very well going seven innings strong allowing just three hits to earn the win. He struck out nine and only allowed one walk to shut down the Honkers and lead the Express to victory while earning his third win of the year.
Brady Burzynski added two hits and two runs including his eighth double of the season. Daniel Jipping put up a highlight when he launched a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning. Joe Gillette and Sam Hurt each contributed with two hits each on the afternoon as well, combining for three runs.
The Express are back at it tomorrow against Rochester with a 7:05 p.m. start time. They return home to Carson Park on Wednesday, July 29 for a doubleheader against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
