Express explode for fourteen hits in rout of Waterloo
One night after only amounting one hit in a loss the Eau Claire Express turned things around quite nicely. Fourteen hits led the way as the Express scored in five of the nine innings to down the Waterloo Bucks 9-3 at Riverfront Stadium on Monday night.
Four hitters in the Express lineup had multiple hit games as the Express plated nine runs to snap their two-game losing streak and ensure at least a .500 record on their current road-trip.
The Express jumped on the board with two runs in the first inning but had lost their lead by the third inning. They made a statement however with a four run fourth inning to reclaim the lead and never back.
Brady Burzynski (UW-Stout) and Sam Hurt (Madison College) each had three hit games to lead the Express with a combined three RBI.
Scottland Church (Oregon State) was the designated hitter tonight and launched his first home run of the season, to bat in three runs and help seal a much needed win for Eau Claire.
Joe Gillette (Oregon State) was 2-4 with a triple on the night as well.
CJ Eldred (Iowa) got the start and had arguably his best start of the season for the Express. He pitched seven innings allowing just three runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out five. It was his first win of the season.
Dalton Roach pitched two innings of scoreless ball to close out the game for the Express.
They have one more game remaining on the road-trip as they take on the Waterloo Bucks in game two tomorrow night with first pitch slotted for 7:05 p.m.
The Express return home on Wednesday, July 29 to face the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a day-night double header. Game one is Kids Day at Carson Park sponsored by Marshfield Clinic and game two is Joe Bonfe bobblehead night sponsored by Mega Co-Op. Games start at 12:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. respectively.
