Eau Claire, Wis. – The Eau Claire Express (1-4) lost a tough game Saturday night as they faced off against the Duluth Huskies (2-3) at Carson Park.

Andrew Stout took the ball for the Huskies and was seemingly unhittable, taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning. He went 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits. First baseman, Nic Ready (Air Force),  drove in those runs on a two RBI single in the bottom of the 6th. Adam LaRock (MATC) and Spencer Myers (Notre Dame) would score on the play.

Henry DeCaster (St Thomas) got the start for the Express. He went 6 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits.  Duluth would jump out ahead in the top of the 1st, with Augie Isaacson scoring on a wild pitch. Isaacson also drove in a run on an RBI single in the top of the 3rd frame. He would finish 1-3 with two RBI’s and one walk. Rece Dietrich (UMD) and Andrew Lee (Century CC) would both pitch out of the bullpen tonight.  Combined, they would throw three innings, giving up one earned run on two hits while recording two strikeouts.

When Duluth’s bullpen got involved, the Express were provided no opportunity to mount a comeback. Levi Shandrew would relieve Stout in the 7th inning. He surrendered only four hits. The Express would score once more in the bottom of the 9th when David LaManna (Notre Dame) drove in Tommy Gillman (Midland JC) with an RBI single.

It proved to be too little, too late as the Express dropped their fourth straight decision. The bright spot from the loss was the Express’ clean defense. For the first time since opening night, they did not have an error in the field.

The series will conclude tomorrow at Wade Stadium, with first pitch set for 3:05 pm. The Express will then travel to Thunder Bay for two games before returning home for a 6:35 pm first pitch on Wednesday, June 6th, against the Bismark Larks. It will be Buck Night at Carson Park.
