Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express (5-14) were not able to overcome an early deficit and dropped the first game of a two game set with the Duluth Huskies (14-5) by a score of 10-5.
The Express pitching staff struggled to control Duluth’s offense. Jake Harrison (UT-San Antonio) could only throw one inning before exiting the game due to Northwoods League pitching guidelines. Harrison would give up four earned runs on six hits. Tyler Strzelczyk (MATC) would come in relief for two innings before he too exited the game due to the 35 pitches an inning limit. The sophomore gave up four runs, none were earned. Colton Hale (Illinois-Springfield) pitched the majority of the game for the Express, going 5 innings allowing one run off three hits and two walks. Reagan MacDonald came in to finish the game, throwing one inning giving up one run on one hit.
Eau Claire’s offense is finally starting to heat up. The team first scored in the 5th inning. David LaManna (Notre Dame) drove in Spencer Myers (Notre Dame) on a sacrifice fly. The bottom of the 6th inning was very good to the Express. Ryan Bishop (Dallas Baptist) started with a single. Adam LaRock (MATC) then walked and Noah Sifrit (Oklahoma State) hit an RBI double to score Bishop and advance LaRock to third. Myers hit an RBI single to drive in LaRock and move Bishop over to third base. Sifrit would score the final run of the inning after an RBI single hit by Cody Milligan.
