Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express (13-21) dropped a close game to the Bismarck Larks (23-11) at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. The Express could not best the Larks in an afternoon pitcher’s duel, losing 3-2.
Justin Slaten (New Mexico) got the start for the Express and did not allow a run over five innings. He gave up three hits and walked five. The Northwoods League strikeout leader recorded three more on the day, bringing his total to 46. Austin George (College of Charleston) entered and pitched two innings in his Express debut. He would receive the loss after surrendering a three run home run to Bismarck’s Michael Farnell. Tyler Strzelczyk (MATC) pitched a scoreless 8th inning, allowing one hit and one walk.
The Express scored first in the 4th inning. Cody Milligan (Oklahoma State) reached first on a fielder’s choice. Milligan advanced to third on a Garrett Gouldsmith (New Mexico) single and would score on a sac fly hit to right field by Ryan Bishop (Dallas Baptist). The second run came in the 8th inning when Jimmy Glowenke (Dallas Baptist) doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a groundout hit by Andrew Pratt (Lubbock Christian).
Eau Claire heads to Willmar tomorrow for a series against the Stingers with games being played on July 2nd and 3rd. The Express will welcome Thunder Bay to Carson Park for Independence Day on Wednesday, July 4th. It will be Fourth of July Postgame Fireworks! The game is presented by Cohen Law Offices, LLC and fans will receive a baseball giveaway (while supplies last).
