Eau Claire, WI – It was a beautiful night for baseball at Carson Park, but the Eau Claire Express (1-1) were outmatched by the Thunder Bay Border Cats (1-1). The Express lost 6-1 as the pitching staff of the Border Cats came up big.
Eau Claire could only muster up four hits on the night. Spencer Myers (Notre Dame) got the first Express hit, a single in the bottom of the 4th. He would quickly be erased with a 4-6-3 double play. Cody Milligan (Oklahoma State) lead off the 8th with a single but was left stranded on first. The last two hits came in the bottom of the 9th. Jimmy Glowenke (Dallas Baptist) began with a single and was thrown out at second base trying to stretch it into a double. Andrew Pratt (Lubbock Christian) sent a ball over the right field wall for his first home run of the season. The solo shot put the Express on the board.
Carson Rudd (Stanford) got the start in front of the home crowd. He pitched five innings giving up four runs on four hits and five walks. He struck out five Border Cats. Trevor Olson (Xavier) came in and threw three innings of relief. The Chippewa Falls native allowed one run off one hit and four walks. Jimmy Fouse (Dallas Baptist) worked the 9th inning. One run would cross home for Thunder Bay, but it was not earned. Fouse gave up one hit and one walk.
Eau Claire heads to La Crosse tomorrow to begin a two game set against the Loggers on Friday and Saturday (7/6-7/7). They travel to Rochester for the first game of a home and home series on Sunday, July 8th. The Express will be back in town on Monday, July 9th, for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
