Game 1:
The first game of the day was the regularly scheduled contest. The Eau Claire Express (13-17) was the home team and fell to the Willmar Stingers (21-10) by a final of 8-2.
Devon Garcia (Ohio) got things started for the Express in the bottom of the 3rd inning, leading off with a double. Adam LaRock (MATC) laid down a sac bunt and Garcia scored on the play. Nick Brueser (Stanford) knocked one out of the park for his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Manny Castellano (Cumberlands) took the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, over three innings of work. He gave up eight hits and one walk. Tyler Strzelczyk (MATC) pitched the final four innings, allowing two runs (three earned) on three hits and one walk. He struck out two.
Game 2:
The second game was a makeup game from July 3rd. That game in Willmar was postponed due to rain. So, Willmar was the home team and Eau Claire was the visitor. The Express were in danger of being no hit until the 6th inning. Even with the lack of hits, the Eau Claire Express (14-17) defeated the Willmar Stingers (21-11) with a final of 5-2
Four Express batters walked in the 1st inning. Spencer Myers started, followed by Adam LaRock, Nick Brueser (Stanford), and David LaManna (Notre Dame.) Myers scored on the RBI walk by LaManna. In the 6th inning, Brueser walked again. LaManna reached on a sac E1 and advanced Brueser to 2nd. Later, Ryan Bishop (Dallas Baptist) loaded the bases with a walk. Two passed balls later, Brueser and LaManna scored. Drew Hmielewski (Minnesota) and Mitchell Buban (UW Milwaukee) both walked. Adam LaRock had the big stand up, 2 RBI double that gave the Express 5-1 lead and sealed the deal.
Josh Gaworski (Concordia-St Paul) started on the mound and threw 3.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and five walks. Chippewa Falls native, Trevor Olson (Xavier), received the win after going 3.1 innings to finish the game he allowed one run on one hit and one walk.
The Major League Dreams Showcase is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 7th, in Madison, WI. Justin Slaten (New Mexico) and Drew Hmielewski will represent the Express as a part of the home team in game 1. The Express then return home on Wednesday, August 8th for a 6:35 pm first pitch. It’s Turn Back the Clock Night presented by Royal Credit Union! Buck night includes $1 hot dogs, $1 small sodas, $1 domestic beer and $4 wine for the first three innings!
