Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express (4-7) defeated the Waterloo Bucks (6-5) in front of a full Carson Park crowd Friday night. The Express used the power of the long ball, winning 5-1.

Lakeland University Postgame Recap: Boone Montgomery (UT-Arlington) got things started early, blasting a no-doubt shot over the left field wall to put the Express up 1-0 in the second. This was the first Express home run of the 2019 season.

Waterloo’s lone run came in the top of the 4th on a walk, wild pitch, and a single.

The offensive success continued for Eau Claire in the bottom of the 5th. Connor Laspina (Flagler College) led things off with a single. He stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Spencer Myers followed with a walk. Both base runners would score when Matt Bottcher (Illinois-Chicago) slashed a 2 RBI triple to right field. Phillip Sikes (Pima) came up big in the next at bat, blasting a two-run shot and the Express took at 5-1 lead.

The Express sent the DBU combo to work on mound. Tim Ewald (Dallas Baptist) started and worked 4 solid innings, giving up 1 run on two hits and six walks. The lefty earned five strikeouts. Alec Baker (Dallas Baptist) was dominant on the mound, throwing four perfect innings. He loaded the bases in the 9th inning but was able to shut down the Bucks. Baker finished with four strikeouts.

The Express finish their series with the Waterloo Bucks tomorrow, June 8th with a 6:35 pm. We hope to see you in front of the stadium on the Carson Park Plaza for a pregame band!
