Eau Claire, WI – The early season June weather has treated fans well at Carson Park and Wednesday evening was no different. It, unfortunately, didn’t translate to success on the field for the Express as they fell 5-2 to the Mud Puppies.

Ricky Apodaca (Minot State) received the starting nod and was lights out early in the game, posting seven strikeouts in the first three innings. He ran into trouble in the 4th though, allowing three straight RBI singles to Minnesota batters. The backend of the bullpen looked good as Isaiah Katz (St. Cloud State) and Matt Helwig (Lewis) maintained their 0.00 ERAs, each contributing scoreless innings.

The Express offense struggled for much of the game as the Mud Puppies’ pitching was stellar all night, led by Chad Fox (Minnesota-Duluth). Two bright spots were Reed Latimer (Montevallo) and Cole Conn (Illinois-Chicago) who added two hits each, with Latimer driving in one of the two runs for the Express.

The venue, opponent, and time stay the same tomorrow as the Express take on the Mud Puppies at 6:35 CT in Carson Park.
