Eau Claire, WI – The Express have struggled to get the offense going all year, but Sunday afternoon was a different story for the trains. They put up eight runs on ten hits in one of their best offensive outings of the season en route to beating the Mankato MoonDogs 8-4.

The Express hitters were led by a three-headed monster of Charlie Szykowny (UW-Stout), Joe Yorke (Cal Poly), and Reed Latimer (Montevallo). Szykowny had three RBIs and hit the only homer of the game, a screaming line drive over the right-field wall. Yorke, making his Eau Claire debut, added two hits and two RBIs while Latimer contributed two RBIs via triple in the 5th.

The quartet of Express pitchers weren’t missing many bats but were able to work out of trouble multiple times, allowing just two earned runs. Jared Lessman (Iowa Western CC) got the start and was fairly effective, going four innings and giving up just one run. Adam Stanton (Iowa Western CC) tossed two shutout innings in relief of Lessman and Matt Helwig (Lewis) locked down the game with a scoreless 9th.

The Express return to Carson Park tomorrow to take on the MoonDogs again at 6:35 CT.
