Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express took down the St. Cloud Rox on Sunday afternoon by the score of 5-4 but that wasn’t the only Northwoods League score that Express fans were watching. The Duluth Huskies, who were up 1.5 games on the Express for first place in the Great Plains East division, lost in a blowout against the Waterloo Bucks to keep Eau Claire’s dreams alive of winning the first half.
Jack Brown (Minnesota State-Mankato) got hit around by the Rox but was able to get some clutch double plays to tiptoe his way out of trouble, allowing just one run over six innings of work. The top of the Express order was very productive with Cadyn Schwabe (North Dakota State) and Benjamin Rosengard (Rice) contributing two hits each and Rosengard and Trevor Haskins (Stanford) driving in two runs apiece. Matt Helwig (Lewis) continued his dominance out of the bullpen, throwing two perfect innings to earn his third save of the season.
The Express return to Carson Park to play the Rox tomorrow at 5:05 CT as the first half of the NWL season comes to a close.
