Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express are out for vengeance in the second half. After losing the first half by half a game to Duluth, the Express have come out of the gates hot in the second half, completing the two-game sweep over the Mankato MoonDogs, 6-5.

The MoonDogs scored first, putting up two runs in the third inning including a solo shot from Boston Merila (Minnesota). Eau Claire answered with a run, but Mankato came right back with a three-run homer to make the score 5-1. The Express would proceed to put up five unanswered runs in the next four innings, capped off by the go-ahead RBI from Max Coupe (Skyline College).

Chris Baytosh (Cal Poly) was dominant in relief after the MoonDogs chased Luke Eldred (Dallas Baptist) in the 5th, posting four shutout innings and earning the win. Luke Trahan (Dallas Baptist) came on for the last two outs and got the save.

The Express offense had four players with multi-hit games. They were led by Coupe’s three base knocks while Benjamin Rosengard (Rice), Joe Yorke (Cal Poly), and Cadyn Schwabe (North Dakota State) all added two hits. Schwabe reached base in all five of his plate appearances and also swiped two bases.

The Express will travel to Bismarck tomorrow for a four-game series on the road.
