Eau Claire, WI – The Express had to battle mother nature in their first game home after a four-game stretch in Bismarck but they were able to emerge victorious, beating the Duluth Huskies 4-1 and improving to 6-1 in the second half.
The Express got on the board early with three runs in the 2nd, highlighted by a two-RBI double off the bat of Sam Hunt (Vanderbilt). The score remained 3-0 through the 6th inning when the game was promptly delayed due to rain. After about an hour-long delay, the two teams were able to retake the field. Eau Claire tacked on an insurance run in the 8th on Hunt’s third RBI of the game. Hunter Rosenbaum (UTRGV) threw all three innings after the rain delay to earn the save and close out the Huskies.
Jared Lessman (Iowa Western CC) started on the mound for Eau Claire and was missing a lot of Duluth bats in his five innings of shutout baseball. He finished with eight strikeouts and allowed just three hits. Sam Kuchinski (Montevallo) contributed three hits, Jake Sapien (Stanford) had a single and double, and Hunt reached base in all four of his plate appearances.
Express return to Carson Park tomorrow at 6:35 CT for the second game of this four-game home stand as they look to sweep the Huskies.
