Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express fell to the Willmar Stingers 5-4 on Friday night by a score of 5-4. Willmar has now won a franchise record nine straight games and 17 of their last 18 games. The Express now sit two games in front of the La Crosse Loggers for the second-half title in the Great Plains East.

For the second night in a row, Willmar struck in the first inning, picking up three runs off of Express starter Trey Felker (Montevallo). The Express would get one back in the bottom half on a sac fly from Joe Yorke (Cal Poly). Felker and Stingers starting pitcher Steve Brooks (Cal Poly) would settle in after the first frame as each tossed five shutout innings to end their nights. The bullpens would continue the scoreless trend until the 9th when the Stingers picked up two insurance runs. The bottom of the ninth saw the Stingers attempt to throw away the game as they committed three errors leading to three unearned runs to score for the Express, but the comeback would come up short.

The Express travel to Rochester tomorrow for a weekend series against the Honkers as they look to get back on track.
