Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express shut out the Minnesota Mud Puppies on Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 5-0. The victory brings the Express’ magic number to three, pending the results of the Loggers’ doubleheader against Rochester today.

There wasn’t much to talk about offensively in this game as both teams combined for just nine hits. For the Express, Charlie Szykowny (UW-Stout) cranked a two-run homer in the 8th inning and Joe Yorke (Cal Poly) added two hits.

On the pitching side of things, Eau Claire starter Adam Stanton (Iowa Western CC) was dominant from the start, throwing eight shutout innings and allowing just five hits. Matt Helwig (Lewis) shut the door in the 9th by striking out the side in order.

The Express will go on the road for a five-game trip before returning back to Carson Park on Saturday for the final game of the regular season.
