Eau Claire, WI – The Eau Claire Express took down the Rochester Honkers 13-5 in the regular season finale, giving them their best home record in team history, 28-8.
The Honkers struck for three runs in the first inning, but the Express would come back with a vengeance. Eau Claire scored three in the 3rd, two in the 4th, one in the 5th, two in the 6th, and five in the 7th as they poured on 13 runs and 14 hits.
The Express offense was led by Reed Latimer (Montevallo) and Joe Yorke (Cal Poly). Latimer had a double and a homer along with four RBIs while Yorke added a grand slam and five total RBIs. Charlie Szykowny (UW-Stout) contributed three hits and an RBI and Cadyn Schwabe (North Dakota State) and Sam Kuchinski (Montevallo) each added multiple hits of their own.
Eau Claire begins their quest for a second Northwoods League Championship as they travel to Duluth tomorrow for game 1 of a best-of-three series against the Huskies. First pitch is at 5:35 CT.
