Duluth, MN – After a lengthy game last night, the Express enjoyed a quick win, as they blew by the Duluth Huskies, 5-2 in 10 short innings of baseball.
This closely contested pitcher’s duel was evenly matched, with each team’s starter throwing for at least 6 innings. Cal Higgins (Western Kentucky) of Eau Claire squared off against Evan Borst of Duluth. Between the two hurlers, the first 6 innings only saw one run scored between the Huskies and Express, when Duluth tacked on one run in the bottom of the 4th on a Sacrifice Fly.
More scoring wouldn’t happen again until the 7th inning when this time it was Eau Claire’s turn, as Cole Conn (UIC) hit a Sac Fly of his own, scoring Reed Latimer (Montevallo). Later in that same half-inning, another run would come across the plate on a Bronson Rivera (Hawaii) RBI single. With Duluth adding another of their own in the bottom of the 7th, the game was again knotted up at 2-2.
The teams stayed in lock-step at 2 apiece through regulation, which prompted extra innings of ball. Luckily, Eau Claire only needed one, as they added 3 runs in the top of the 10th inning, putting them up 5-2 for good.
This Win over Duluth marked not only the team’s 4th win in a row but also their 13th straight regular-season win over Duluth, dating back to the 2022 season.
The Express will be back at home tomorrow vs. the Thunder Bay Border Cats. First pitch will be at 6:35 pm CT, and we will be hosting First Responder Appreciation Night at the Ballpark. Come on out for a great evening of baseball!
