Duluth, Wis. – The Eau Claire Express fell in their final away game of the regular season in Wade Stadium, 6-2 against the Duluth Huskies, Tuesday night.
Following a dominating 13-1 victory against the Huskies on Monday, which boosted the Trains’ record to 24 wins, the loss of momentum was due to a dominant Duluth starting pitcher and a struggle to get the bats moving, now giving the Express a 24-8 second-half record.
The Huskies started their momentum early in the bottom of the first inning, earning the first runs of the night as Chance Sobbry hit a single to left field, bringing home Wyatt Pennington for the first earned run, quickly followed by Andrew Ermis hitting his own single to left field, bringing home Sobbry for a 2-0 lead.
Eau Claire responded quickly with two runs of its own in the top of the second inning as Ethan Miller hit a single near left field, bringing home Sawyer Stein. Hot on his heels was Landon Ubrig, who advanced to third base, then eventually home to tie the score 2-2.
Despite having a hot second inning, those were the only two runs the Express secured Tuesday night; however, the Huskies earned three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning following a two-run double hit by Ermis, followed by Jack Haferkamp, hitting his own double to bring home Ermis, right after.
The final run of the night for the Huskies was brought in during the bottom of the eighth inning with Haferkamp crossing home plate, following Berrisford being walked, bringing the final score for the Huskies six runs on seven hits and one error.
Miller paved the way for the Express, securing one hit, walking twice and earning a team high of two RBI’s for the night. From the mound, starting pitcher Bryce Ehr dished out six strikeouts, followed by allowing five hits and two runs throughout his five innings on the mound.
The Trains roll out of Wade Stadium, securing two runs on seven hits and zero errors, looking to compete against the Huskies for the third game in their four-game series in Carson Park at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.
