Green Bay moves to 7-0 against Lakeshore this summer
Ashwaubenon, Wis. – The Green Bay Rockers (16-13) sank the Lakeshore Chinooks (10-20) at Capital Credit Union Park tonight by a 6-3 score. Green Bay takes the trip down to Mequon tomorrow for a 6:35 p.m. matchup with Lakeshore at Kapco Park.
The Rockers struck first in tonight’s tilt thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Makani Tanaka (Oral Roberts) in the second inning. However, the Chinooks responded with a single from Ethan Hindle (Kentucky) that scored his college-teammate Griffin Cameron in the top of three.
In the bottom half of the third, Green Bay had a counter-punch of its own. Jake Bold (Princeton) crushed his team-best eleventh solo-shot to put the Rockers up two. Then, just one at-bat later, Nick Harms (Case Western Reserve) blasted a homer of his own to tie Bold’s mark of 11 on the season.
That wasn’t the last of Green Bay’s bombs: in the bottom of the fourth, Makani Tanaka hit a two-run dinger for his sixth of the campaign — in just 18 games. The outfielder had a brilliant night for the Rockers, tying his season-best with four RBI while being involved in six putouts in center field.
Ultimately, Tanaka’s homer was the nail in the coffin for Lakeshore. The Chinooks went from down 6-1 to 6-3 after a two-run seventh inning, but that ended up having no impact on the final outcome.
A big reason why Lakeshore was held in check all night was Rockers starter Mikel Howell (Southern Arkansas) and closer Nainoa Cardinez (Hawaii). Howell tossed six innings with just one earned run and five strikeouts, while Cardinez didn’t allow a hit over the final two innings and fanned three.
With tonight’s victory, the Rockers are now 7-0 against the Chinooks this season. Green Bay aims to finish the year undefeated in the series when it travels to face Lakeshore at 6:35 p.m. tomorrow.
Following that contest, the Rockers have their final home game of the summer on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. against the Kingfish. That date is Fan Appreciation Night, which features a “jerseys off their back sale” as well as live music from Johnny Wad through the third inning.
Wednesday’s are also Youth Sports Nights at Capital Credit Union Park, so any child wearing their youth sports jersey will receive a free outfield box seat ticket.
