Wisconsin Rapids kick off two-game set in Green Bay
Ashwaubenon, Wis. – The Rockers finish the season with two divisional series’ as they reside 2.5 games out of first place. They take on the Rafters tonight and tomorrow, with each game beginning at 6:35. This evening’s affair is the final home game in Green Bay during the regular season. Gates open at 5:30 for a pregame concert with Johnny Wad and the evening will include giveaways for fan appreciation night.
The Rockers will need to win and get some help from Madison and Kenosha who are taking on Lakeshore and Wausau. All three of these pivotal Great Lakes West matchups start at 6:35.
The Rockers will send Owen Ripley to the mound in game one of this series. With just one appearance this summer, he sits with an inflated 9.00 ERA after allowing four runs in his four inning appearance against Battle Creek.
Ripley struggled in the first inning before he settled in nicely for the final three. The Rockers will look for first inning success from the righty as they have allowed damage in the first frame of the last two games.
The Rafters will throw Hezekiah Scott, the season-long arm for Wisconsin Rapids. His thirteenth appearance of the season will come in the final week. He has a 14.49 ERA through his 24.1 innings pitched. He has walked 28 and struck out 16. Green Bay’s offense will need to have good plate discipline and take their free passes in this game.
Boone Kirst will get the start at first base for the second straight day. Yesterday, he contributed with three base knocks. The Rockers will need help at that position with the departure of some key corner infielders.
A win keeps Green Bay alive in the playoff hunt. They will search for success against a struggling Wisconsin Rapids team that sits at 9-22 in the second half.
