Green Bay is now just a game and a half behind Lakeshore with two to play
Ashwaubenon, Wis. – Despite a three-spot in the ninth, the Rockers were able to shut down any rally from Wisconsin Rapids, besting them 8-6 in their final matchup of the season.
After four and a half innings, it was a pitcher’s duel inside of Witter Field, as both Austin Grube (UW-Parkside) and Mikey Hotinski (USC Upstate CC) were throwing gems to both offenses. Grube’s first road bump when Danny Gavin (Butler) drove in two runs to give the Rafters an early lead.
Green Bay responded with a seven-spot, drawing five walks and retaking the lead, a lead that they would never give up for the rest of the game.
The Rafters were able to keep Green Bay close, adding one of their own in the seventh, and making a late push in the bottom of the ninth. A three-spot, highlighted by a three-RBI, bases-clearing double from Kedren Kinzie (Hawai’i). After a walk to Gaard Swenson (Hillsdale College), Connor Harvie (UW-Milwaukee) blasted a ball all the way to the wall in left field, but just short enough for Daniel Harden (Houston) to haul it in.
With the win and Lakeshore loss, the Rockers remain alive in the push for the postseason, now one and a half games outside first. They must win out, and have both Wausau and Lakeshore lose out. Green Bay heads to Madison tomorrow to begin their final series of the season, with game one beginning at 6:35 pm. You can listen live on WNFL 99.7 and 101.9.
