A Letter from Kalamazoo Growlers Owner Brian Colopy:
To the Kalamazoo community and Growlers fans everywhere,
I’m sitting here at Homer Stryker Field, looking out over a diamond that has seen more than its fair share of history over the last decade. I’m reminded of those late nights after a championship win when the lights are still on and the joy is still palpable in the air.
It’s in these quiet moments that I realize how far we’ve come—from a startup franchise no one believed in, to a two-time Northwoods League Champion and a staple of our community.
Today, I am beyond thrilled to share some news that ensures those lights will keep shining for a very long time.
We have officially signed a 10-year lease extension with the City of Kalamazoo, keeping the Growlers home through 2038.
This means that for the next 13 years, this ballpark will remain your home for summer nights, family traditions, and championship runs.
But more importantly, it means we are just getting started on our mission to make this one of the premier venues in the entire region.
Looking back, the road to this moment was paved with obstacles that could have easily ended our story.
I still vividly remember meeting with folks in 2014 and being told point-blank that ‘baseball just doesn’t work in Kalamazoo.’
I remember the physical exhaustion of wading through a flooded ballpark, desperately salvaging equipment and jerseys from the rising water.
I remember the paralyzing fear of the pandemic, wondering if the lights would ever turn back on. But through every single crisis, this community didn’t just stand by and watch.
You stepped up and showed up. As we look toward the next 13 years, our commitment to you remains unchanged:
- An Amazing Venue: We are dedicated to developing Homer Stryker Field into one of the best stadiums in the region, with ongoing improvements that enhance every aspect of your visit.
- Affordability: We will always prioritize keeping our games accessible so that every family in Kalamazoo can experience the magic of a night at the ballpark.
- More Than Baseball: This stadium will continue to be a hub for memories—whether it’s a championship game, a community festival, or a corporate celebration that brings people together.
Winning titles in 2022 and 2024 was special because we did it together. This lease extension is our promise to you that our mission isn’t going anywhere. We are here to stay, here to win, and here to serve this amazing community.
Thank you, Kalamazoo, for believing in us and for making “Fun Makes a Difference” more than just a slogan. The next 13 years are going to be special.
Sincerely,
Brian Colopy

Kalamazoo Growlers and City of Kalamazoo Announce 10-Year Lease Extension Through 2038
KALAMAZOO, MI – The Kalamazoo Growlers and the City of Kalamazoo are pleased to announce a 10-year extension to the team’s lease at Homer Stryker Field. This new agreement builds upon the current lease—set to expire in 2028—and ensures that Growlers baseball and community events will remain a staple of the Mayor’s Riverfront Park through the 2038 season.
Since 2014, the Growlers and the city of Kalamazoo have worked to make Homer Stryker Field a premier destination in the Northwoods League. This extension represents a mutual commitment to the stadium’s continued growth as a community hub in Southwest Michigan.
“Kalamazoo is our home, and we are thrilled to anchor our future here for another decade,” said Brian Colopy, Owner of the Kalamazoo Growlers. “This agreement is a testament to the support of our fans and our strong partnership with the City and Parks department. It allows us to keep investing in the fan experience and ensures that our stadium remains a place where Southwest Michigan can gather for years to come.”
The extension follows a period of significant momentum for the franchise. On the field, the Growlers have seen sustained success, capturing Northwoods League Championships in both 2022 and 2024. Beyond the standings, the team has garnered frequent national media attention for its creative promotions, helping put the city of Kalamazoo in the national spotlight.
However, the partnership’s impact extends well beyond baseball. Since 2014, Homer Stryker Field has evolved into a multi-use venue, hosting a variety of community festivals, large-scale corporate outings, and local events on non-game days.
“The Growlers have been an excellent partner in making Mayor’s Riverfront Park a vibrant destination,” said Patrick McVerry, Parks and Recreation Director at the City of Kalamazoo “The organization brings more than just championship baseball to our city; they bring people together for festivals and community events that drive activity downtown. We are happy to see that partnership continue through 2038.”
With the security of this long-term agreement, the Growlers look forward to future stadium enhancements and continuing their mission of providing unique, family-friendly entertainment to Southwest Michigan.
