La Crosse, Wisc.- Waterloo scores four runs on five walks in the 8th inning to overcome the La Crosse Loggers 7-3.
Waterloo put two runs on the board in the 4th inning when would be inning ending 4-6-3 double play was dropped by the Logger first baseman Gavin Johns (UCLA), allowing Adam McGinness (Western Illinois) and Zack Soria (Florida International) to score.
La Crosse got a run back in the 5th when Lorenzo Hampton Jr. (California) single to center field, scoring Kevin Collard (San Diego) from 3rd base.
Luke Farley (Iowa) tied the game up in the very next inning with a solo shot over the left field wall for his 4th of the season. Mason McCoy gave the Lumbermen the lead in the 7th on a two out double to left-center to score Lorenzo Hampton Jr. (California) from 1st base.
The Bucks fought back against the Logger lead in the 8th. The first two batters of the inning walked. The Logger starter, Nick Raquet (William & Mary) was taken out after the leadoff walk. La Crosse nearly got out of the inning after a La Crosse third baseman Luke Farley tagged out Brody Weiss (Riverside City) at 3rd base. An infield single loaded the bases with one out. La Crosse got the 2nd out on a liner to shortstop Mason McCoy (Iowa), but La Crosse could not get out of the inning with no damage.
La Crosse reliever Joe DiBenedetto (Nova Southeastern) hit a batter and walked the next two, scoring three Buck runners. Graham Spraker (Quincy) surrendered another walk after replacing DiBenedetto, before finally getting out of the inning. Logger pitching walked five batters and hit one, scoring four in the 8th inning. Waterloo did not get any hits in the inning.
Waterloo added another on a wild pitch to extend their lead to 7-3 going into the bottom of the 9th. Brandon Downey (Maryville) cleaned up shop in his second inning of work to secure the win and get his 5th save of the season.
The loss snaps a 8-game winning streak and a 5-game home winning streak for La Crosse. They fall to 11-7. Waterloo takes back a 1.5 game lead on the Lumbermen (12-5). Kenosha is the final visitor to Copeland Park during the six-game homestand. Game time is 6:05, gates open at 5 pm.
