LA CROSSE, WI – In the last game of the La Crosse Loggers six-game home stand, the Loggers were on a mission to tally their second win of the season. It was a beautiful night for baseball weather wise, but things soon got ugly on the field. Unfortunately, the Loggers would wrap up their home stand with a 2-11 loss to the Waterloo Bucks. This leaves them with a 1-5 record overall.
After a brilliant relief appearance on opening day, LHP Miles Sandum (San Diego) would get his first start in a La Crosse Loggers' uniform. Sucessfully holding the Bucks to only one run through four, things quickly took a turn for the worst. In the fifth inning alone, the Bucks scored seven runs on seven hits, including a three-run blast by Tyler Bordner. All of this damage was done on two outs and the Loggers would not be able to recover from there. The Bucks' winning pitcher of the night was LHP Brady Corson.
It was a quiet night for the Loggers' offense with six hits compared to the Bucks' 17 hits. The best Loggers' performance at the plate goes to Yahir Gurrola (North Florida). Gurrola went 2-for-4 at the plate, which included a solo shot over the right-center fence. The first home stand of the season did not go as hoped for the La Crosse Loggers, but there is still an entire summer left of baseball and heaps of players yet to arrive. As the Loggers begin a five-day road trip, we are hopeful that they will return to La Crosse with a five-game winning streak.
Your La Crosse Loggers will return to the Lumberyard on Saturday, June 10 against the Rochester Honkers. The first pitch is set for 6:05 PM and the gates will open an hour prior. See you there!
