The La Crosse Loggers came back from an 8-2 deficit to beat the Duluth Huskies 10-8, beginning their 8-game road trip with a victory over the first place Huskies.
After two scoreless innings, La Crosse took a 1-0 lead in the third on a bases loaded walk from Brady Allen (South Carolina) to score Trey Torain (George Washington). The Huskies would gain a 3-1 advantage in the fourth inning on three unearned runs scored against Loggers’ starting pitcher Zach Pronschinske (UW-La Crosse). The Lumbermen responded with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Ryan Holgate (Arizona) that scored Brett Hawkins (Young Harris).
The Huskies pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the frame and added a run in the 7th to extend the lead to 8-2. La Crosse would not fold, however, as they batted around in the 8th inning to push across eight runs and regain the lead 10-8. The monster inning was highlighted by an RBI double from Tony Bullard (Arizona), a 2-RBI double from Holgate, and a 2-RBI triple from Cody Jefferis (San Diego) to take the lead.
With a 10-8 lead, field manager Brian Lewis called upon left-hander Tyler Shingledecker (Penn State) to record the final six outs of the game. The freshman southpaw slammed the door with 2.0 shutout innings to earn his second save of the season. Right-handed reliever Cal Jarrett (Cincinnati) earned the victory in his first game in a Loggers uniform.
La Crosse (6-7) and Duluth (7-6) are back in action on Monday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM as the Loggers sit just a game out of first place in the Great Plains East Division.
