The La Crosse Loggers were unable to overcome the Rochester Honkers on Independence Day to conclude the first half of the season.

Connor Harrison (Hawaii) started for the Loggers, making his 6th appearance of the season. He walked no batters but gave up 8 hits to a well-balanced Honkers offense. The southpaw tallied 5.0 innings while allowing 3 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

Offensively for the Honkers, it was the Mountaineers leading the way. Austin Davis (West Virginia) collected 3 hits and was dominant on the base paths, swiping 2 bases. Kevin Dowdell (West Virginia) came up big in the 3rd inning, blasting a 2-run homer to right field.

Jakob Guardado (Pasadena City College) toed the slab for Rochester, appearing in his 7th game. He registered a brilliant outing, striking out 10 batters through 5.0 innings, while holding the Lumberman to just 2 hits. The Honkers’ defense was lackluster, totaling 5 errors on the evening.

The 2 hits for the Loggers came from Landon Wallace (West Virginia) and Carson Hornung (South Carolina). Hornung extended his hitting streak to a league-leading 19 games, coming from an RBI double in the 5th frame.

The Loggers will take on the Waterloo Bucks tomorrow at home. It will be “Guaranteed Win Wednesday” at the ballpark, presented by Noodles & Company. The first pitch is slated for 6:35pm CT at Copeland Park.
