Transfers earned playing time as true freshmen

The La Crosse Loggers on Wednesday announced the signings of right-handed pitcher Jake Fromson and outfielder/first baseman Tyler Stover.

Fromson and Stover both saw significant time at Kansas State as freshmen in 2014 before transferring for this season.  Fromson is red-shirting at Missouri State and Stover is red-shirting at Solano Junior College (Calif.).   Fromson, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, appeared in 23 games with two starts for K-State last spring.  He went 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA and was called on to pitch against the likes of Oklahoma State, Baylor and Texas.  His ERA was 1.80 as a reliever over his final 12 games.  Fromson, a Lee’s Summit (Mo.) native, also pitched for the Hays (Kan.) Larks this past summer and was named “Leading Pitcher” at the NBC World Series, throwing 12 innings without allowing an earned run.

“Jake Fromson has a real good feel for pitching and showed that during his freshman campaign at Kansas State,” said Loggers general manager Chris Goodell.  “He’ll be hungry when he arrives this summer and we look forward to him being a leader on our staff.”

Stover, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 40th Round of the 2013 Draft before heading to Kansas State. The Vacaville, Calif., native was named Player of the Year in the Monticello Empire League and to the AllMetro Team as a senior in 2013.

At Kansas State, Stover played in 33 games with 23 starts as a freshman, playing designated hitter, right field and first base and batted .291 with five doubles and 12 RBI, batting mostly fourth or fifth. 

“Tyler Stover is an impact bat that will bring a presence to the middle of our lineup,” proclaimed Goodell.  “Like Fromson, Tyler will also be hungry to compete and we are excited to go to work with him.”

The Loggers open the 2015 season at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at Green Bay. The team returns to Copeland Park for its 13th home opener at 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 29 against Wisconsin Rapids.
