Michael Keeley signs to be new voice of the Honkers
(Rochester, Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of Michael Keeley to be the new play-by-play voice on 1520 AM “The Ticket” for the 2016 season.
Keeley has extensive experience as the play-by-play broadcaster in ice hockey for the North American Hockey League’s Austin Bruins in Austin, Minn. and the Keystone Ice Miners in Connellsville, Pa.
His voice has been moving through the airwaves on both television and radio, with a majority of his experience being in ice hockey. He is very excited to learn more about the area and the players coming to Rochester.
“I’m excited to learn the stories of all the players that come in from different parts of the country to spend the summer in Rochester. That's the most unique aspect of summer collegiate baseball, in my opinion. I'm also excited to get to know more people from the Southern Minnesota area,” Keeley said.
Keeley enjoys the challenge of calling a baseball game, and is very excited for the opportunity to expand his skill set.
“I know that the Honkers are one of the top organizations in the Northwoods League, on and off the field,” Keeley said. “Additionally, baseball is a passion of mine, right up there with hockey and I was looking for an opportunity to expand that part of my broadcasting skill-set, and to continue to broadcast while hockey is in its off-season.”
A graduate of State University of New York at Oswego in 2013, he had his hands in several different sport-related productions. He covered Oswego State Men’s ice hockey team on 88.9 FM WNYO in Oswego, NY, he called the “High School Hockey Game of the Week” for WBGT-TV in Rochester, N.Y. and he broadcasted all home games of the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s Rochester Ridgemen in Rochester, N.Y.
The Rochester Honkers 23rd season begins on May 31st when the team travels to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to take on the Express. The following night, Wednesday, June 1st, the Honkers battle the Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available. Call the Rochester Honkers office at 507-289-1170 for more information. The Honkers are also looking for host families for the 2016 season and ask all interested parties to call the business office for more information.
