(Rochester, Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of Tulane left-handed pitcher Sam Bjorngjeld, for the 2016 Northwoods League season.

Bjorngjeld, a native of Sugar Land, Texas, is a 6-foot-5, 220-pound, pitcher. A red-shirt sophomore at Tulane, he went 1-0 with a 3.15 ERA in his last season at Tulane. He appeared in 22 games, which is the second most on the team, and threw a total of 20 innings. In his 22 appearances, Bjorngjeld allowed 15 hits, seven earned runs, walked nine and struck out 19.

In his red-shirt freshman season, he appeared in six games and went 0-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings.

He played his prep career at W.P. Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas, and he helped his team to a regional semi-finals finish in his junior season. He was named to the Rawlings Texas All-State Honorable Mention team and was second team All-District first baseman during his senior season.

The Honkers are in Mankato to take on the MoonDogs for a double header tonight, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. The second game will start approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends. The Honkers are back at home Thursday to battle the same MoonDogs team, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Find a seat and relax your feet at Mayo Field after enjoying Thursdays on First!
