(Rochester, Minn.) – Six former Honkers and one current Honker were drafted in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Former players; Ryan Boldt (Nebraska), Matt Fiedler (Minnesota), Michael Letkewicz (Augustana College), Nick Highberger (Creighton), Ryan Boelter (Gardner-Webb), John Schuknecht (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) and current player Miles Mastrobuoni (Nevada) were all drafted in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Boldt was the highest former Honker drafted. He was a second round (53 overall) pick by the Tampa Bay Rays. The junior outfielder played for the Honkers in 2014. Fiedler was a ninth round (286 overall) pick by the St. Louis Cardinals. The junior outfielder and pitcher played for the Honkers in 2015.  

Mastrobuoni was a 14th round (420 overall) selection by the Tampa Bay Rays. The junior infielder also played for the Honkers in 2015, and was signed to play for the Honkers this season.

Letkewicz, a senior right-handed pitcher, was a 23rd round (692 overall) pick by the Cleveland Indians, who played for the Honkers in 2015. Senior right-handed pitcher Highberger, a 30th round pick (892 overall) pick by the Oakland A’s, played for the Honkers in 2014. Boelter, a senior left-handed pitcher, played for the Honkers in 2014, and was a 33rd round (986 overall) pick by the Chicago White Sox. Schunknecht was picked by the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim in the 37th round (1,116 overall) the senior outfielder played for the Honkers in 2014.

The Honkers are back at Mayo Field to play the La Crosse Loggers, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. on Monday June 13 for MN Bankers Association Night. The Honkers will hit the road for one game to battle the North-Division leading Waterloo Bucks Tuesday night. Wednesday, the Honkers and Bucks will take each other on at Mayo Field, which is also Finding Dory Night! The first 250 fans will receive a free movie ticket, courtesy of CineMagic Theatres. There will also be three- $100 prize package giveaways! First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6.
