(Rochester, Minn.) –  Cameron Aufderheide’s (2-1) (Saddle Back) great start lifted the Rochester Honkers to a 3-1 win over the Thunder Bay Border Cats in Thunder Bay on Sunday.

Aufderheide went eight innings, allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out five on his way to the victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the sixth Casey Worden hit a single to left field to score Turner Buis (Cal State Fullerton) and Kyle Kasser (Oregon). An error by Thunder Bay on the play allowed Ryan Fitzpatrick (Saddle Back) to score from first base and give the Honkers a 3-1 lead.

Shane Shepard (North Carolina State) hit a RBI single to score Bobby Fulkerson (S. New Hampshire) in the third inning to give the Border Cats a 1-0 lead.

Brandon Langan (2-8) (University of New Mexico) got the start and the loss for the Border Cats; he went seven innings, allowed three runs, one of them earned, on six hits, walked three and struck out five. Tyler Moskalyk (University of Winnipeg) pitched two innings in relief and allowed one hit and struck out one.

Ian Clark (1) (Santa Barbara City) threw the ninth and got the save for the Honkers; he allowed one hit. 

Worden went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Kasser went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Honkers’ offense. Shepard led the Border Cats by going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

With the win the Honkers advance to 12-19 in the second half and 19-47 overall, while the Border Cats fall to 13-18 in the second half and 19-46 overall.

The Honkers are back at home on Monday as the St. Cloud Rox come to town on WWE/Superhero night with Z-ROCK 107.7! Drew Ellis will represent the Honkers in the Major League Dreams Showcase in Madison, Wis. He will play in game one of the double header, which is set for 4:05 p.m. The Honkers play at Mayo Field on Wednesday against the Rox on Fan / Host Family appreciation night! First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6:00!
