(Rochester, Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers fell to the La Crosse Loggers 2-0 in La Crosse Saturday night.
David Worrell (1-6) (Corpus Christi) got the start and the loss for the Honkers despite throwing a strong 5.1 innings. He finished with two runs allowed, one of them earned, on five hits, walked one and struck out four.
The Loggers scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. Mason McCoy (Iowa) broke a 0-0 tie when he hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. Cullen Large (William Mary) scored later in the inning to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead.
The Honkers collected five hits, but where unable to push a run across. Relief pitcher Lance Berringer (Washington) picked off two runners in the seventh inning. With runners on first and third and one out, Berringer picked off the runner at first, and then threw a strike before picking off the runner at third.
Nick Raquet (4-4) (William Mary) pitched eight shutout innings to get the win for the Loggers; he allowed four hits, walked two and struck out nine. Mark Nowaczewski (1) (Nevada) picked up a strikeout in the ninth en route to collecting his first save of the season.
Turner Buis (Cal State Fullerton), Kyle Kasser (Oregon), Casey Worden (UC Riverside), Josh Davis (Pepperdine) and Cole Heavilin (Wagner College) picked up the five hits for the Honkers. McCoy went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, while Large went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Loggers’ offense.
With the loss the Honkers fall to 13-23 in the second half and 20-51 overall, while the Loggers move to 20-14 in the second half and 37-33 overall.
The Honkers will play their 2016 regular-season finale tomorrow in La Crosse against the Loggers. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
