(Rochester, Minn.) – The future Honkers are hitting their season finales and looking towards the conference tournaments before thinking of Rochester.  Here is a quick look back at last week.

 

Morgan McCullough (INF) – Oregon (26-17)

Morgan McCullough, a true freshman, went 3-7 in a weekend series at Washington State. Hitting .259 on the season, McCullough has started 42 of 43 games for Oregon.

 

Kenyon Yovan (RHP/INF) – Oregon (26-17)

Kenyon Yovan took his first loss of the season Sunday afternoon at Washington State.  Pitching the final 1.2 innings, Yovan allowed 5 runs on 5 hits as Oregon lost 6-5.  Yovan stands at 1-1 with a 2.42 ERA and 13 saves.  He has collected 30 strikeouts in 26.0 innings over 17 appearances.  He also has 29 plate appearances.

 

Mike Echavia (INF) – Nevada (15-31)

Echavia went 4-5 with an RBI and one run scored in Sunday’s 7-5 win over Clemson.  Echavia is hitting .286 with a team high 30 RBIs

 

Brad Pluschkell (INF) – UC-Davis (15-24)

Pluschkell and the UC Davis Aggies had a 3-game set at UC Santa Barbara over the weekend taking 2 of 3.  Pluschkell went 2-6, seeing action in all 3 games.  UC Davis took the final 2 games of the series, a double header on Saturday.  Pluschkell is hitting .174, and has started 35 of the Aggies 39 games, and has appeared in all 39. Only one other Aggie has appeared in all 39.

 

Zach Stone (RHP) – UC-Davis (15-24)

Zach Stone picked up his first save of the season, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings of relief Saturday versus UC Santa Barbara.  Stone faced a total of seven batters, and struck out 3 to preserve the 3-2 win.  Stone on the season is 4-2 with a 3.91 ERA in 16 appearances.

 

Griffin Neuer (OF) – Bellarmine (33-17)

Bellarmine finished up their season with back to back double headers at Wisconsin Parkside splitting the 4-game series.  Neuer had a tough weekend going 0-14, but did collect 2 RBIs in Saturday’s second game 11-10 win.  Neuer is hitting .279 with 29 RBIs.  He’s one of two players to have started all 50 games for Bellarmine.

 

Eddie Mathis (LHP) – Bellarmine (33-17)

Temporary pitcher Eddie Mathis pitched a gem in the first game of Friday’s double header at Wisconsin Parkside, but to no avail.  Mathis went 8.0 innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, and struck out eight in a 3-0 loss.  Mathis finishes the season 8-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 13 starts.  With 86.1 innings pitched, he’s collected a 64 strikeouts.

 

Zeke Pinkham (C) – Louisville (42-6)

Pinkham continues to improve as the Cardinals’ Sunday starter at catcher.  He went 0-2 with walk on Sunday’s 9-4 win at Notre Dame.  Pinkham has started 13 games this season hitting .200 with 10 RBIs.

 

Highlight Player of the Week

Ryan Thompson (RHP) – Illinois (42-6)

The true freshman from the small town of Byron, Minnesota continues to improve and impress the Illinois coaching staff, as shown by his 20 appearances on the season.  On May 2nd Thompson threw a complete 8th inning allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 2, as Illinois won 6-5 at Southern Illinois.  On Sunday versus #24 Maryland, Thompson was called on with one out in the 7th and closed the door on Maryland, pitching 1.0 innings, allowing 1 hit and walking 2.  Illinois went on to win 8-6 after giving up 4 runs in the 9th only to score 2 in the bottom for the comeback walk off victory.  Thompson is sitting at 2-2 with a 5.23 ERA, over 20 total appearances and one start.
