Yovan named Freshman of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, and added to USA Baseball 28-man roster

(Eugene, Ore.) – Future Rochester Honker Kenyon Yovan received honors from multiple publications after a standout freshman season at Oregon. Earlier this week, Yovan was added to the 28-man roster of the 2017 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Yovan was also named Freshman of the Year and Second-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.  The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named him a First-Team All-American and a finalist for Stopper of the Year. Perfect Game named him Second-Team Freshman All-American. The Amateur Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings named him to the Second-Team Division I West Region, and was also named First-Team All-PAC 12.

Yovan and the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team will play a five-game series against teams in the Coastal Plains and Carolina-Virginia Collegiate Leagues a part of their training camp. The 28-man roster will also play a five-game series against Chinese Taipei. USA Baseball then will announce their final 24-man roster on Monday, June 26.

Yovan had a stellar freshman year at Oregon. He led the Ducks with 15 saves, which were tied for fourth nationally, and fourth-most saves in school history. Yovan pitched his first 21.0 innings of his collegiate career without surrendering a single earned run. He finished the season with a 1-1 record and a 1.97 ERA in 22 games, striking out 36 batters, and only six walks.
