Mayo High School Grad Returns To Rochester For a Second Summer.

(Rochester Minn.) –  The Rochester Honkers have announced that Rochester native, Michael Michalak, from the University of Illinois, has signed with the team for the 2018 season.  Michalak, a 2015 graduate of Mayo High School, will return or his second summer with the team.

Last summer, Michalak hit .222 in a team high 55 games played.  He hit five home runs and was second on the team in runs scored with 35.

The 6-foot-3 junior began his collegiate career at junior college powerhouse Des Moines Area Community College.  Michalak combined to hit .362 over his two years at DMACC. He added 18 home runs, 32 doubles and 28 stolen bases over his career.

Michalak was a three-year letter winner at Mayo High school in baseball and a two-time all-conference selection. Michalak also stood out on the gridiron starting as a wide receiver for three years and holding school records for receiving years in a career. He was a second team all-state selection his senior year.

The University of Illinois begins their season on February 18th when they travel to Beaumont, Texas for the Cardinal Classic hosted by Texas Southern.  Illinois will play a round robin tournament with games against Lamar, Missouri State and Texas Southern.

The Rochester Honkers 25th season begins on Tuesday, May 29th when the team hosts the Eau Claire Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. 5-Game Packs and Kids Club Memberships are available now!  Season Tickets, ½ Season Plans, Suites and Patios are also available.
