ABC 6 Sports Anchor, Sean Tehan to Coach for the team this summer

(Rochester, Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers have announced that Sean Tehan, ABC 6 News Sports Anchor, will be joining the team’s coaching staff this summer.  This will be Tehan’s first attempt at coaching.

“We are excited to have Sean join our coaching staff for a weekend this summer,” said Honkers Field Manager, Thomas Walker.  “I’m expecting great things from him, including his strong ability to shag baseballs, move nets, and carry equipment.”

The Rochester Honkers brought this concept to ABC 6 News in an effort to give their fans an insider look at the game, from a coaching perspective.  It will also give Tehan the ability to connect differently with the team and coaching staff.

“He will get live time on the field, I promise you that,” added Walker.  “He talks a lot, so he should fit in and be able to yell BACK clearly for our baserunners to hear.   As far as getting time on third base, that will be a game time decision depending on his learning curve, ability to communicate signs, and agility to avoid a foul ball.  He is on TV for a reason.”

The Waukesha, Wisconsin native will join the Honkers Coaching staff June 1, and will go through June 3rd.  He’ll be able to coach one home game, when the Waterloo Bucks come to Mayo Field on Friday, June 1, and then get to travel to La Crosse, Wisconsin, for a two-game set versus the Loggers on Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3rd.

Tehan grew up in Wisconsin, and graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  He was heavily involved their on-campus television station and the Athletics Department, where he served as their Sports Director.  He also did a play-by-play and color commentating, reporting, editing, and photography.  For his efforts, he won a pair of Wisconsin Broadcaster’s Association Awards.

Tehan joined the ABC 6 News Sports Team in March of 2015.

The Rochester Honkers 25th season begins on Tuesday, May 29th when the team hosts the Eau Claire Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. 5-Game Packs and Kids Club Memberships are available now!  Season Tickets, ½ Season Plans, Suites and Patios are also available.
