Webb providing UC Riverside a jolt with his bat

(Rochester Minn.) – The college baseball season is winding down, but that means the Northwoods League season is right around the corner. Here is a quick look at how some future Honkers have performed.

Benjamin Sems (INF) – Kansas (23-27)
Benjamin Sems played a big part in Kansas’ three-game series against Kansas State. The sophomore hit a go-ahead solo home run in the 10th inning to lead the Jayhawks to victory in the first game of the series. Kansas dropped the final two games but Sems hit .272 and scored three runs and drove in three. Sems is hitting .253 for the Jayhawks, has three home runs and 27 RBIs. Kansas continues play Thursday hosting Oklahoma.

Hunter Spencer (LHP) – Bellarmine (37-17)
Hunter Spencer came up clutch leading Bellarmine to a bounce back victory in the Great Lakes Conference Tournament. Spencer tossed 7 1/3 innings giving up only two runs. He struck out four and walked just one to improve his record to 6-2. Spencer has thrown 67 1/3 innings, stuck out 52 and walked just 13. Bellarmine plays Thursday at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. They take on Southern Indiana in Springfield, Ill.

Matt Hardy (OF) – UC Riverside (18-28)
Despite just two starts, Matt Hardy was a big run producer for the Highlanders. He hit .250, drove in four runs and added a double and a triple to his stat line. Hardy is hitting .303, has hit four home runs and is third on the team with 27 RBIs. UC Riverside continues play Friday at UC Irvine for a three-game series.

Josh Ibarra (RHP) – Concordia-Irvine (22-28)
Josh Ibarra picked up his third win of the season in a solid outing against Biola. Ibarra tossed 5 2/3 innings allowed two earned runs on five hits. Ibarra struck out five to lead Concordia- Irvine to a 6-3 win. Concordia Irvine concluded their regular season in seventh place in the Pacwest Conference. Ibarra hurled 51 innings, struck out 43 and compiled a 6.35 ERA.

Nate Webb (INF) – UC Riverside (18-28)
Nate Webb showed off some power as he had an extra base hit in three of the four games last week. The freshman hit .352 and launched his second home run of the season. He added two RBIs and scored four times. Webb is hitting .248, has scored 25 runs and has a team leading 16 doubles. UC Riverside plays Friday at UC Irvine to begin a three-game series.
